“ सर्वे सन्तु निरामया ” : “Sarve Santu  Niramayah

 "May all be Healthy”

GB Pant Hospital, now known as G  B Pant Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education & Research (GIPMER) is a  tertiary care center of the government of NCT Delhi. The institution was  commissioned in 1964 and recently celebrated its golden jubilee in 2014. It reinforced  its commitment to bring healthcare of  best standards within reach of every individual.

With rising patient load and a burgeoning  disease burden, India is in enormous need for high quality and affordable  healthcare delivery. The medical science today is  technology intensive with added costs which the common man cannot afford. The  population of Delhi & NCR has grown enormously. The OPD attendance at  GIPMER which was ~35000 in 1970 increased to over 7.5 lakhs in 2015: an over 21  fold increase. Thus, there are complexities which GIPMER must be ready to  embrace.

It is satisfying  to note that GIPMER has stood the test of time. Addition of new OPD complex, an  arrhythmia centre, emergency heart and brain attack unit, newer modular  operation theaters, and acquiring new equipments are some of the steps  undertaken to deal with the increasing patient volume. GIPMER believes in building a collaborative,  meritocratic and satisfying work culture that empowers the talented to succeed  in every sphere of healthcare delivery.

The availability of a large pool of clinical  talent in the country, newer corporate hospitals, improved global connectivity  and the significant cost advantage available to patients for treatment in India  has lead to a radical change and competitive performance in the present  healthcare sector. From “monopoly” status in mid 1980’s, GIPMER has to now survive  in the era of competition while maintaining its reputation and standards of  care.

To ensure that all our patients receive the  best medical care, we have a dedicated team of doctors, nurses and technical  staff. The institute believes that besides upgradation of infrastructure, evolution  of human resource is also necessary to meet the existing challenges. We need to  convert the perceived ‘threat’ of  large patient load into ‘opportunity’ for training and research. Only then can  GIPMER become a centre of excellence which offers safe, quality and affordable  health care to the patients and quality training to its students as stated in  the vision and mission statement.

In this era of  multi-disciplinary approach to patient care, I am sure that entire staff will  embrace a culture of teamwork and discipline and work in the direction of  achieving the set goals.
We would be only too glad to hear more from  you and make GIPMER more responsive to your needs.

Warm Regards

Medical Director
